Kids Clear™ Bentonite Clay Detox Bath Instructions

Kids Clear™ is a 100% pure bentonite clay that has a very high cation exchange capacity (CEC), which means it has a very high negative ionic surface charge when mixed with warm water.

Clay Tub Bath Directions
  1. Open the jar of clay.  Avoid breathing in the clay dust powder.  Use of a dust mask is recommended. Take a measuring cup and put aside the desired amount of clay you want to use for your child's bath.
(See table below to calculate recommended amount of clay and time in bath according to the weight of the child). Be sure to close the gusset bag tightly and store in a dry area.
  1. Begin filling up the bath tub with hot water and empty the pre-measured amount of the clay from the scoop (½ - 1½ cup) into the bathwater (see chart below). If the tub is a Jacuzzi, please tape up the jets with duct tape. The simplest and most effective way to dissolve the clay is to sprinkle it over the running hot water like icing sugar on a cake.  This can be done at any stage of the tub filling up. Using a stainless steel or plastic whisk or other stirring utensil, thoroughly mix the clay into the bathwater. The small particle size of the clay will dissolve easily with no clumping. Continue to fill the tub, allowing enough space to add more water later as necessary.
  1. After having thoroughly mixed the clay into the bath water allow the clay to fully hydrate by letting it sit for 5 minutes before getting in. Prior to getting in, measure the temperature of the bath water with a thermometer. Add cooler or hotter water to bring the temperature between 100 – 103 degrees Fahrenheit. It is important to make sure that the temperature of the water does not exceed 103 degrees. The rule of thumb is: As warm as a baby’s bath, not hot like a hot tub.
  1. The child should step into or be placed CAREFULLY into the tub as the clay may be slippery. The child does not need to recline in the tub. Sitting in the clay water is fine. It is best for the child to take a bath alone, not with a parent or other siblings.
  1. After the allotted time, carefully raise the child’s body out of the tub. The child should then shampoo his/her hair and take a tepid shower in a separate shower stall. If you do not have a separate shower, dry the child off as best as possible and follow step 6.
  1. Open the tub drain and allow the bathwater to drain.  Swish any residual clay particles with a large sponge or your hand and add more water, if necessary, until the rest of the clay is down the drain. This will be a very easy cleanup as most of the clay will go down the drain when you first let out the drain plug. The child can then shower and shampoo in the tub after it is clean.
  1. Moisturizing the child’s skin after the bath helps to relieve any resultant dryness. Dress the child warmly until the pores are closed.

  2. It is suggested that you take a natural electrolyte drink after the bath such as Emergen-C® or ConcenTrace® Trace Mineral Drops. ConcenTrace® Mineral Drops are extracted from the Great Salt Lake, and contain the full spectrum of all the minerals in a balance to the body. Emergen-C® electrolyte crystals are free of artificial flavors and colors.

30 - 100 lbs

Please note: The above guidelines are not absolute; the rule of thumb is to go slowly, starting with a small amount of clay for a few minutes and gradually increasing the amount of clay and the amount of time in the tub.  If the child has no reactions, gradually increase the amount of clay by ¼ cup and the amount of time in the tub for 2 – 3 minutes for a up to a maximum 2 cups of clay and 20 minutes.

WARNING: Possible Reactions to Clay Baths

Use of clay bath can result in the following temporary symptoms: Fatigue, hyperactivity, nausea, light-headedness, temporary loss of appetite, lethargy, irritability, skin eruptions, and flu-like symptoms.

In very rare cases, vomiting may occur. This is a sign that the child is releasing a large amount of toxins at once.  Remove the child from the bath immediately. The above reactions will pass within 24 – 48 hours.

Contraindications

Use the Kids Clear™ Bentonite Clay Detox Bath only under the advice of a physician or health care provider if your child has a heart condition, high or low blood pressure, or is on any pharmaceutical medication.  Also, do not use the clay bath if the child is sick with the flu or other viral or bacterial infection. If the child is taking prescription medication, speak with your doctor before beginning a clay bath regimen. Avoid breathing in the clay powder directly. Use of a dust mask is recommended.

Guidelines for Footbaths

The suggested amount of Kids Clear™ Detox Clay is 1/2 – 1 cup in the footbath for 8-20 minutes. Follow the same weight guidelines as outlined for a tub bath.

Fill the bucket with hot water so that the water comes up to the calf, if possible. The water should be between 100-103 degrees.  Place the clay in the water and stir thoroughly with stainless steel or plastic whisk. Allow the clay to stand for 5 minutes. Test the water for temperature and then have the child place feet in the water. When the time is up, remove the child’s feet and clean them with warm water.  Moisturize the feet. Have the child drink water, juices, Emergen-C®, ConcenTrace® Trace Mineral Drops, etc.

How often should the child take a bath?

A full bath may be given at least once a week but not more than once every 72 hours. A footbath may be given as often as every 2 to 3 days.
